The MARTINDALE Pilling and Abrasion Tester is internationally recognized as the standard method for determining the durability of textiles and leather, according to BS 5690, BS 2434: METHOD 27A, BS EN 344: 5. 14, BS EN 388: 1994, Marks & Spencer P. 19, BS EN ISO 12947.

It is ideal for determining the abrasion resistance of many different types of textile test pieces. The Martindale can be used to test clothing and upholstery, footwear and gloves and many other products. In addition, it can also be used to determine the susceptibility to
“Pilling” can be used.

Plastic and rubber coated fabrics can be tested if the standard abrasion system is replaced with a special paper. For soiling tests on light fabrics, a specially impregnated paper may be used instead of the abrasion system.
