Original Gurley Densometer Model 4110for measuring the porosity of paper and paper products according to TAPPI T 460 m49, ASTM D-726-58/Method A and ISO 5636/5.
The densometer test procedure consists of measuring the time required to pass a given volume of air through a given area of paper under uniform light pressure. Compressed air is generated by an inner cylinder of precise diameter and standard weight and flows freely into an outer cylinder partially filled with oil, which serves as an air seal. The paper sample is held between clamping plates that have a round opening of 1.0 sq inch (standard) or 0.25 sq inch or 0.1 sq inch diameter. The clamping plates are located at the base of the instrument.
